White Corn Arepas with Mozzarella Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of Doña Fela white precooked corn flour
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter (optional, for more flavor and softness)
  • 100g mozzarella cheese, grated or cut into small pieces (adjust to taste)
  • A splash of cooking oil

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the corn flour with the salt.
  2. Add the warm water and butter (if using) little by little, kneading until you have a soft, manageable dough.
  3. Add the mozzarella cheese cube and seal it tightly so the cheese doesn't escape.
  4. Divide the dough into portions and form arepas of the desired size.
  5. Heat a frying pan with a drizzle of oil and cook the arepas over medium heat, approximately 5–7 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  6. Serve hot and enjoy.
